Alternative treatment for eczema

Postby Neko » Wed Mar 23, 16:17

Apparently, Ellidel causes cancer in lab rats.

We all know how much I love cheese and fear large animals. So, naturally, I would hate to get cancer from treating an irritating skin condition.

Does anyone else here suffer from this annoyance?

I have it on both legs and it's growing worse.

What do you use?

I need suggestions before I become a leper. :kill:

tons of things cause cancer in lab animals. it is usually rare, so i suggest looking more stuff up online and in the library, and of course talk to your doctor. but seriously everything has side effects most you'll never see.

I think Oatmeal Baths?
They are good for rashes etc.. And relaxing because it's in bath form.
I'm sure there is an ointment or a cream that will help at your local drug store.

*runs to the medicin cupbord* Eumovate Cream I what I use, and I think it works okay. I don't know how much it is [under £5 I think], or if it's available in the states [it's made by Glaxo Labs, Middlesex]. The active ingredient is clobetasone butyrate if you want to know.

Edit: I also found out it's a steroid cream. I just thought you might also want to know that - I know some people hate steroids in any form.

When I was younger I used penaten-cream. I don't know if it's still sold but it is completely amazing. It doesn't hurt on broken skin and always heals it quickly.

My friend has a really bad eczema (sp?) problem, and she uses a variety of creams. I'll PM you the names later when she comes over. All I know is that it starts to act up when she's in warm showers.

No, I was not in the shower with her. Not yet anyways

I had eczema when I was little and still have bits left now. I'd get a skin doctor to prescribe you a special ointment because there are different kinds and stuff so you want an ointment specially for you. Normally you get an ointment that you apply when it gets particularly bad, and then one that you apply daily to minimise itchiness etc.

Oh, and drink plenty of water ;)

I got Ellidel from the doctor guy.
But it's not as if he did any amazing tests to determine what would be best.
He asked me a couple questions and gave me a prescription.
It works, but the eczema pops up on different parts of my legs and spreads. :(

I have (or have had and don't anymore... or maybe I still do, but it's invisible because of the stuff that I use..) eczema. I use desonide ointmenty stuff. Either I don't have really bad eczema, or it works really good... yep... :lips:

I'm really not all that frightened. I was just amazed that the newspaper made a big deal about it.

I do want to find alternative treatments though. Just to see what works.
