Yesterday's feminist: Rosalyn Yalow Tomorrow's feminist: Mary Ritter Beard Put the Feminist of the Day on your page! If you'd like a new feminist on your web page every day, copy the code below and paste it in your web page. A small box, like the ones shown here, will show up. Suggest A Feminist If you have an idea for someone who should be on the database but who is not yet on our list (click here for the list) we'd love to hear about it. Click here to suggest a new feminist. About the The Feminist Of The Day So what's this all about? It's pretty simple: each day on this page we're feature a different famous feminist from the past or the present. If you believe in women's rights, copy the code above and each day a new feminist will show up in the box for all to see and be educated about. Who all is in the database? Click here for the list. Who qualifies as a feminist? Anyone who believes that women should have equal opportunities for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is a feminist. People who fight to change laws that oppress women are feminists. People who speak out against society expectations that keep women from acheiving their dreams are feminists. Women who accomplish amazing things, serving as examples to other females about what we can do in inspiring all of us to stand up for what we believe in, are at least close enough to make it into the database even if they didn't all call themselves feminists. Does the box on my page change automatically every day? Yes. Is the information syndicated in other ways? Yes. An RSS feed is updated each morning at http://spacefem.com/feministoftheday/codes/fotd.xml. If you have a livejournal, you can read the feminist of each day by adding feminist_otd to your friends list. If there are other sites using this syndication information, I'd love to hear about it! We've tried to make the feminist database fairly diverse, but since most of our contributors are american women, that's who most of our feminists are too. There are several non-american feminists in the database though, and even several men. Hey, you missed one. Drop me an e-mail at spacefem@spacefem.com. How do you pick which feminist is featured each day? We look through the database to see if a feminist was born today. If there's no entry, we pick one at random. Did you do this all yourself? Heaven's no. I had a LOT of help from my forum members, especially dolphinlover and xenolai, who did most of the research. How come I can't learn everything I ever wanted to know about every feminist from this website? We thought it was more important to get the names out there. There are other, more reputable books and websites out there for further research. JavaScript? Please. If you can think of a better way I'd love to hear it. |
